A few bits and pieces were on the move, but you still couldn't escape the feeling spring is still waiting to come to life here on Bardsey. We can only hope that when the dam finally bursts, it will be that much more spectacular for the wait! Today's notable features included a modest passage of Finches, with 34 Goldfinches being a considerable increase on numbers seen in recent days. 77 Linnets, 5 Siskins and a single Lesser Redpoll were also logged. Bardsey's first Blue Tit of the year was a second-year female caught and ringed in the Obs Garden, and was probably the days highlight! Also noted were two Sand Martins and ten Swallows moving through, two White Wagtails on Solfach, and 18 Chiffchaffs, 12 Willow Warblers, 8 Blackcaps and 3 Goldcrests in the bushes, the former two commonest around Nant and the latter two seen most in the Obs Garden. A single Whimbrel on the Narrows and three Snipes flushed from the Wetlands completed another rather modest list of highlights.

The first Green Tiger Beetle of the year was notable on Henllwyn, with another Black Snipefly seen near there. A By-the-wind-Sailor, (Velella velella) was seen in Traeth Ffynnon; a nomadic, wind-drifting species in the class Hydrozoa, which are colonial, single-cellular organisms including the famous (and lethal!) Portuguese Man-of-War.
