Bird race day today. The students were split up into two teams and set off in the early morning to find as many species as possible. The winning team saw 64 species and won by three birds, Snipe was one of the easy birds that was not seen by the losing side!
Ready for the bird race
Birds of the day were Arctic Skua and a Marsh Harrier, the latter bird is just about annual for the island and did not land, it simply flew from Pen Cristin and over to South End and out to sea. Other birds around include Whimbrels in the high 30s along with, one Kestrel, one Buzzard, one Sparrowhawk, 40 Purple Sandpipers, three Snipe, four Curlews, 11 Turnstone, one Arctic Skua, one Great Spotted Woodpecker, one Great Tit and three Tree Pipits.

The weather turned against the teams at 1600hrs with driving rain sweeping across the island, but it cleared again and allowed some of the students to see Little Owl in the early evening.
