**Assistant for 2019**

An enthusiastic birder is required to assist in the running of the 
Bardsey Lodge and Bird Observatory on Bardsey Island

Duties will involve monitoring the island's breeding and migrant birds and other wildlife, assisting with ringing migrant birds and seabirds, monitoring the island's Manx Shearwaters and Choughs, leading guided walks, data entry (ringing and census data) report writing at the season's end.

Dealing with visitors/staying guests and the essential tasks of cleaning and general maintenance (grass cutting, painting, changing gas bottles, moving fuel oils from the boat etc.) will also be required.

Training will be given for certain aspects of the post.

The job is best suited to a keen and active birder, with some experience in censusing migrant and breeding birds.

The successful applicant will be able to live on a remote Welsh island, (at times in isolation) that can be very busy with visitors during the summer months. They must be very self-motivated. He/she must be able to interact well with other staff and paying guests staying at the Lodge.  They should have some experience and be familiar with MS Office or similar, be physically fit and in good health and have a good head for heights as some of the monitoring work in the summer is on steep slopes.

There will be two Assistants on Bardsey in 2019.

Sleeping accommodation will be provided in one of the staff bedrooms, with other facilities available at the Lodge.

BTO C permit desirable, though advanced trainees will be considered.
