Numbers of birds remained very low for another windy day, but several notable oddments were found in the morning. One Hooded Crow flew along the coast early on, and a short time later the same bird – or perhaps a second individual? – went the same way. A Black-tailed Godwit spent the day on the South End while other waders included a Sanderling, a Common Sandpiper, 17 Whimbrels and a solitary Dunlin. Small passerines were few, but included a Tree Pipit in Cristin Withy, a Garden Warbler singing ast Nant, seven Sedge Warblers, two Common Whitethroats on the south end and four Blackcaps.
A Whimbrel trapped after dark was the 22nd to be ringed on the island this year – doubling the previous highest annual total for this species (ste last year).
This is really good. Keep up the good work. It is a good start to to the day checking up what is going on on the Island. Best wishes to all. Judith
