A few new warblers had arrived in the morning, but it still seemed like a very quiet and samey day’s birding until the afternoon, when the timely discovery of an Icterine Warbler at Cristin injected a much-needed shot of excitement and enthusiasm into the atmosphere. The bird showed well but intermittently to a small gathering of observers before finding its way into the heligoland trap, where it was duly caught and ringed. Counts of other migrants included 30 Sedge Warblers, 15 Spotted Flycatchers, 15 Willow Warblers, six Common Whitethroats, four Blackcaps, three Lesser Redpolls and the Yellow Wagtail. Three Purple Sandpipers and 22 Ruddy Turnstones roosted at high tide.

  1. Cracking bird! Excellent find.
I wish our Orme bird had been as easy...or we'd had a mist net!
Looking forward to spend the week down the Lleyn next week, hopefully pop over to Enlli for the day.
    Cheers
