A very pleasant sunny morning was slightly disappointing in terms of the numbers of birds. The most notable sightings of the day were two Treecreepers, four Bullfinches, a late Puffin and four Lapland Buntings. The eastern-looking Chiffchaff at Ty Pellaf eventually identified itself as a tristis by making Bullfinch-like calls. The morning’s migrant counts included 71 Skylarks, a Grey Wagtail, 20 Blackbirds, 26 Fieldfares (three of which were ringed at Cristin), 15 Song Thrushes, 35 Redwings, a normal Chiffchaff, nine Goldcrests, six Blue Tits, 11 Great Tits, 80 Chaffinches, 45 Bramblings, 15 Greenfinches, eight Siskins, eight Goldfinches and two Reed Buntings. A high flock of Jackdaws contained some 460 birds, 306 Starlings were in the lowlands and a single Mediterranean Gull passed at sea.
