Sunday 18 March 2012

With strong Northerly winds persisting throughout, it was a rather quiet day. A Collared Dove at Ty Pellaf (first of the year), a male Reed Bunting on the mountain and five Common Scoters and a Red-throated Diver off the south end were the highlights. 62 Goldcrests scattered all over the island was an increase since yesterday, whilst other migrants included eight Wheatears, seven Chiffchaffs and a Goldfinch. Raptors present on the island today saw the usual Merlin and female Sparrowhawk patrolling the coast and lowlands respectively, whilst a Buzzard drifted over the mountain.

Wheatears continue to arrive in small numbers, although there had not been a real 'fall' of them yet
 Collared Dove
Meadow Pipit-numbers have gradually decreased from the high count of 714 on the 14th, to 149 today
