Saturday 30 March 2013

Despite the glorious weather, with very light winds and temperatures soaring up to 6' C, it was another very disappointing day bird-wise. A Jack Snipe and two Common Snipe were flushed in the Ty-Pellaf Wetlands in the morning, and four Gannets passed the coast. At least 20 Goldcrests were seen in the Plantation, with a further three at Cristin; 12 Chiffchaffs were also feeding in the Plantation. The two Buzzards continued to circle around the island, and both the Sparrowhawks were present. Two Wheatears were seen on Pencristin.

At least 20 Goldcrests were feeding in the Plantation, many of which were singing males (above)
Linnet numbers are beginning to increase, with small flocks of 15 present at the moment
Peregrine Falcons continue to hunt around the island, recently having caught Manx Shearwaters and a Woodpigeon
