A bitterly cold day with a biting Northerly wind ensured that it remained rather dull on the bird front. The highlight of the day was a Red Kite which toured around the island during the afternoon. Five Redwings in the island's gardens included two coburni-looking individuals, and a Mistle Thrush and four Song Thrushes were also recorded. At least 40 Chaffinches had arrived overnight, and fed in the island's gardens, along with three Greenfinches, a Goldfinch and a Siskin. Two Blackcaps remained in the gardens, along with six Chiffchaffs and a handful of Goldcrests. Three Wheatears were present around the Narrows, and a Collared Dove was seen at Cristin.

A shocking record-shot of the Red Kite which showed very well for some. This is the first record of Red Kite this year, and represents the first real 'scarcity' to reach the island, illustrating just how bad a year it has been so far! There have been around 19 previous records of Red Kite on the island.

  2. Red Kite interesting. We saw one over Nefyn on that day - may be the same bird drifting north
