A very autumnal day, with fresh Northerly winds and low temperatures saw a few migrants reaching the island. The most noteworthy sighting of the day, in island terms, came in the form of three Northern Pintails, which were seen in Solfach in the morning. There are only 40 previous records of this species on Bardsey.
Also out to sea, the first autumn Balearic Shearwater of the year passed by with six Common Scoters.

A scattering of common migrants inland included three Tree Pipits, a Grey Wagtail, a Common Redstart, a Whinchat, four Blackcaps, 11 Chiffchaffs and four Spotted Flycatchers.

Singles of Merlin, Kestrel and Buzzard were also recorded.

A few of the Chiffchaffs were frantically feeding, the top bird here pictured with a Bluebottle
One of the Spotted Flycatchers spent most of the day feeding on Bumblebees, Bluebottles and other small insects in Ty Pellaf garden...
