Apologies for the lack of updates in the last 10 days- I have been away from the island, although news should resume regularity in the coming days and weeks. Staff should be returning to the Observatory in a week or so, and migrants should also start arriving!!

February ended on a lovely sunny day, with low winds. A scattering of Meadow Pipits, Stonechats, Linnets and Pied Wagtails were nice to see, many of which were singing and song-flighting. Four Shelducks bobbed around in Henllwyn, and the Hooded Crow continued to hang out with the local mob of Carrion Crows around Solfach. The first Buzzard of the year spent the day being harried by everything from Carrion Crows to Herring Gulls.

Meadow Pipits have increased in numbers in the last two weeks, with many males display-flighting. This bird managed to find a nice large caterpillar.
Three Pied Wagtails have also arrived to join the lonesome male that has spent all winter on the island

  2. Hi Clark, thanks for the compliments on the blog. Most of the layout was designed by Steve Stansfield, although I have gradually added all of the 'gadgets' on the right hand side over the years. I am 17, and have been up-keeping this blog since 2011. Cheers, Ben
