A
surprisingly late movement of hirundines saw 404 Swallows and 76 House Martins zipping around spells of
drizzle before hightailing it past the island. The Wryneck put another very brief appearance on the Mountainside by
Carreg Bach whilst two Skylarks, one
‘Scandinavian’ Rock Pipit, two Grey Wagtails, and seven White
Wagtails were dotted around. The
recently discovered Melodious Warbler in Cristin Withy was still
lurking in the Willows with further warblers amounting to two Blackcaps, 17 Chiffchaffs, two Willow Warblers, plus 61 Goldcrests. The autumn’s vanguard of finch passage saw two Siskins and 41 Goldfinches recorded.
Continued
wader interest on the Narrows today amounted to 60 Oystercatchers, six Ringed
Plovers, one Golden Plover, one Knot, 12 Purple Sandpipers, six Dunlins, one Bar-tailed Godwit, one Whimbrel,
27 Curlews, six Redshanks, and a healthy count of 80 Turnstones.
Gazing
at sea was rewarding once again as one Balearic
Shearwater, three Manx Shearwaters, 58 Gannets,
four Common Scoters, two Arctic Skuas, one Great Skua, two Mediterranean Gulls, 111 Kittiwakes, and
200 Razorbills were logged heading
southwards.
