Another reasonable day for early migrants, there were no stand out species, but a combination of birds passed through giving hope that there may be a reasonable autumn passage on its way this year. 465 Manx Shearwaters and 54 Gannets were recorded out to sea along with six Harbour Porpoise and 12 Risso’s Dolphins.

A Sparrowhawk and a Buzzard today were the first to be recorded in some time, on the beaches and rocks today a total of 10 Curlews, three Redshanks, two Common Sandpipers and a Turnstone were recorded. Another Mediterranean Gull today adds to the number of early records we’ve had this year. Seven Swifts also moved through, whilst presumably the resident hirundines numbered 56 Swallows (both adults and juveniles now) and eight House Martins. A Grey Wagtail was also heard overhead today. Five Sedge Warblers saw their way into log today, including some of the first fledglings. A Willow Warbler was the only other migrant recorded today.
