Today saw a couple of new arrivals to the island, no doubt tempted over with the change in wind to a more favourable northerly direction. A Great Spotted Woodpecker was in the Plantation as were two Spotted Flycatcher, and 22 Wheatears dotted around the coastline was a nice little arrival. A bit of overhead migration early in the morning included the second Little Egret of the year, 29 Skylarks, a Sand Martin, eight Swallows, five Grey Wagtails, 25 'alba' Wagtails, a 'flava' Wagtail and a Lesser Redpoll.

Other birds logged today included two Manx Shearwaters, 40 Gannets, two Common Scoters, a Sparrowhawk, two Buzzards, three Kestrels, a Merlin, two Peregrines, a Golden Plover, five Whimbrels, 42 Curlews, 12 Redshanks, 15 Turnstones, 25 Black-headed Gulls, 96 Kittiwakes, a Common Tern, a Guillemot, 105 Razorbills, 38 Pied Wagtails, 12 White Wagtails, 40 Robins, six Stonechats, three Song Thrushes, five Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler, 12 Goldcrests, 13 Chaffinches, 234 Goldfinches, 52 Linnets.

This fresh looking Rush Veneer was flying on the mountainside above Nant.

The unsettled weather recently has thrown up some magnificent clouds.
