Wet and windy from start to finish today. The wind was gusting at 40mph and coming predominantly from the south-west. The most interesting bird of the day was a juvenile Cuckoo that perched on the feeding station in the garden, a nearby Meadow Pipit was one of the host parents.

Juvenile Cuckoo in the garden this morning

Once again Sam and George were up last night catching Storm Petrels, it wasn't a bad night with four news birds caught. Moving the net to Nant Valley might be more productive, so that's the plan for next time!

A walk around the South End didn't produce much in the way of passerines, but the sea was very active with Manxies passing close by in their hundreds, so it was a good opportunity to sit down and watch them manoeuvre through the large waves.

The best birds of the morning walk were 11 Choughs that were feeding on Solfach, many of which were juveniles, although the Pen Cristin pair were in amongst the lot, a Redshank on Solfach and three Starling over the withies also added some variety.

Because of the adverse weather conditions, it was the sort of day to get on with indoor jobs. Sam tidied up the ringing hut and George continued with sorting out the storeroom.

Other sightings today include: four Cormorants, two Sedge Warbler, four Curlews, two Whimbrels and one Raven.
