Calm weather this morning meant that mist-netting could take place for the first time in a few days. Kevin opened in the Withies, Sam at Cristin and George and Alex at the Farm. Chaffinches were clearly moving through, 12 were caught in total. Goldcrests were also calling in the garden where 6 were caught.

The greatest excitement happened at the Farm, where George and Alex caught the first Yellow-browed Warbler of the year, and on top of that a Merlin was also caught in the Meadow Pipit nets! Extremely beatiful little raptors and such a delight to see up close! It didn't stop there, though, because as they were closing the nets, a Red-throated Pipit flew over with a small flock of Meadow Pipits, it called four times before heading up Pen Cristin! Only the 5th record for Bardsey, unfortunately, it was not subsequently seen as we all needed to help herd sheep off the mountain in the afternoon.
