Tuesday 23 March 2021

A strong southerly wind was present all day with brief periods of rain. The number of seabirds recorded increasing with seven Kittewakes, four Gannets, 11 Shags, 46 Guillemots, 104 Razorbills and four Puffins. Meadow Pipits are still migrating in high numbers with 111 recorded across the island. Four Meadow Pipits were seen flying low over the waves off the South End heading towards Ireland.

Bardsey has a significant resident population of Atlantic Grey Seals, with 98 recorded this morning. A Walrus has been spotted off the South Pembrokeshire coast in the last week and we are hoping it will give us a visit on it's way north.

Megan and Stuart noted that two Choughs were collecting nesting material on Henllwyn. The colour rings identified these birds as the South Coast pair. The male (photographed below) is one of the oldest within the scheme and will be 15 years old this year. We hope to be able to ring their chicks in the coming year.
