Friday 9 July 2021

The day stayed overcast but was very productive with Sam and Stuart checking all the marked Manx Shearwater burrows over the Mountain. Most of the burrows contain chicks, however there were many that were missing within the rapidly growing Bracken. Whilst out the first fledged Whitethroat of the year was seen at Nant.

It was a productive moth trap with 25 species including nine Garden Tigers, one Setaceous Hebrew Character, a July Highflyer, a Grass Emerald and two Scarce Footmen.

George and Dan visited the South End hide and saw the first Mediterranean Gull of the year. A Common Seal was hauled up within the Grey Seals on the South End.

Birds today: one Grey Heron, two Whimbrels, ten Curlews, two Redshanks, two Common Sandpipers, one Mediterranean Gull, three Black-headed Gull, two Collared Doves, one Swift, 26 Starlings, two Siskins, three Lesser Redpolls
