Today was forecast to be one of the better days this week and fortunately there were blue skies for most of the day. There was some rain in the evening which put a stop to any planned Manx Shearwater and Storm Petrel ringing.

Stuart led the first guided walk of the week, which focused on the national scarce plants that are found on Bardsey. A Painted Lady was seen at the Narrows and everyone enjoyed tasting Rock Samphire. Some guests were also interested in seeing the Slow Worms that are found under the tins in the Observatory garden.

In the afternoon Sam and Stuart fitted some more gull darvic rings. The Herring Gull chicks are now getting too big to catch and immediately fly as soon as you enter the colony. This will be our last visit of the year.

Wader migration is continuing with a Ringed Plover joining our resident pair, 34 Curlews, two Whimbrels, a Turnstone and a Redshank

The moth trap was a little quiet but a single Garden Tiger, two Small Angle Shades and a Brimstone Moth were of interest.
