Thursday 14 October 2021

It was a largely grey and dull day on the island today.

Very little was moving over in the morning and the days census totals were generally poor.

William, David and Jeff scoured the island whilst Emma and I did more work and tidying after the installation of the new internet, putting my office back together. Later in the afternoon I spent some time working on and preparing a presentation for a talk to Herefordshire Ornithological Club in the evening.

Preparing the presentation

Bird wise there was very little to report, highlights were two Herons, Water Rail, two Merlins, one Buzzard, 1 GS Woodpecker, 48 Curlew four Siskin 2 Redpoll  a Reed Bunting,

The moth trap proved good again, with a superb Red Sword-grass amongst the catch of Lunar Underwings etc. This was about the 14th record for the island. Also a Dark Chestnut was trapped which is still scarce here.

Dark Chestnut another scarce moth on Bardsey

In the evening I did his presentation to a minimum of 50 members of Herefordshire Ornithological Club via zoom. The talk was well received and lots of interesting questions were posed afterwards.
