Today we took our first trip of the year to the Gwylan Islands to carry out the seabird monitoring work, where we count nests and their contents of all the Cormorants, Shags, PuffinsGreat Black-backed and Herring Gulls amongst others, as well as ringing any suitable chicks. Although only a couple of kilometres away, the majority of seabirds on the Gwylans have further progressed in the breeding season than those on Bardsey.

Whilst carrying out the monitoring work, news came through that Paul had found a singing Golden Oriole at Nant! It then flew south and disappeared for a while, but was relocated in Plas Withy.

Aside from seabird and mediterranean overshoots, it was a quiet day for birding on the Island, with a Lapwing, a Dunlin, a Whimbrel, a Curlew, a Collared Dove, 21 Swallows, 10 House Martins, a Reed Warbler, 13 Spotted Flycatchers, four Blackcaps, three Chiffchaffs and three Willow Warblers.
