A slightly slower day than in recent days, that isn’t to say that there wasn’t anything seen today, on the contrary. We were still feeling the tail end of Helene here, with unrelenting South-westerly winds which seem to be producing the goods when it comes to seawatching. Whether we are in store for a passerine from the West is yet to be seen. Today some 208 Manx Shearwaters, one Red-throated Diver, 14 Leach’s Petrels, 105 Gannets, four Common Scoters, four Pomarine Skuas, two Arctic Skuas, two Great Skuas and 12 Sandwich Terns highlighted seawatching. The highest count this year for Leach’s Petrel! Some more waders involved 15 Dunlins, two Whimbrels, 28 Curlews, 12 Redshanks and 10 Turnstones.

Just 14 Swallows and eight House Martins were recorded, whilst ten Grey Wagtails flew overhead. Other species recorded today included three Whinchats, one Blackcap, the first Lesser Whitethroat of the autumn, eight Chiffchaffs and four Goldcrests.
