It turned a little bit gustier once again today but there was still a decent variety of migrants to keep us entertained whilst we wait for more favourable winds. A female Redstart was a nice surprise up at Nant, arriving with two Whinchats, 15 Skyarks and a small number of new Wheatears. At sea, the Red-throated Diver was seen on the sea off Pen Cristin and a different Sabine's Gull passed by off the West Coast along with three Arctic Skuas, a Great Skua and 11 Common Scoters.

Other birds today included a Fulmar, seven Manx Shearwaters, 86 Gannets, two Grey Herons, a Sparrowhawk, three Golden Plovers, two Sanderlings, 50 Curlews, 15 Turnstones, 31 Black-headed Gulls, eight Common Gulls, 271 Kittiwakes, nine Sandwich Terns, 16 'Commic' Terns, 186 Razorbills, a Little Owl, 15 Skylarks, 30 Swallows, two Grey Wagtails, three White Wagtails, 17 Robins, seven Stonechats, 11 Wheatears, a Blackcap, 15 Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler, 24 Goldcrests, four Chaffinches, two Siskins, 16 Goldfinches and 17 Linnets.

When those scarcer species that we often associate with September are failing to turn up (where on earth are the Wrynecks?), we can still count on the common migrants to perform - Chiffchaffs and Wheatears being just two of them.
