With light easterly winds, rain to start the day and then a dry calm evening, hope was in the air for some more new arrivals.
The morning started well with a clear arrival of
Phylloscopus warblers; counts by the end of the day were 64
Willow Warblers and 12
Chiffchaff around the island, mostly concentrated around the plantation at Nant.
Blackcaps had also increased to 17, again mostly around the plantation, along with some finches, two
Chaffinch, two
Siskin and ten
Goldfinch.
Meadow Pipits also almost reached triple figures today with 96 in various fields today, S
wallows hit 23 today including a group of ten heading quickly south, and 27
Wheatear was also another increase.
Apart from the small fall of warblers, other highlights included a nice male
Ring Ouzel, a
Greenshank again, two
Common Sandpiper (new for the year), and two
Jack Snipe flushed in a team effort walking the wetlands. More waders were noted today also with now two
Ringed Plover on the Narrows along with 60
Purple Sandpiper, 14
Turnstone, 16
Snipe in the wetlands, 2
Curlew and an increase to seven
Whimbrel.
