This morning started off with gale force North-Westerlies and torrential rain which both persisted until late morning. The rain and wind then completely eased off, meaning some nets could be opened in the afternoon and we could get out to see what was about.

Just after 12, George headed down to the farm, there were Goldcrests and a couple of Chiffchaffs feeding along the fence-line along with hordes of Stonechats and a few Robins. Overhead, a few Redpolls, Chaffinches and Goldfinches were beginning to trickle north now that the rain had cleared. The Eastern Yellow Wagtail was feeding in amongst a group of cows below Ty Pellaf, and allowed more nice views today.

Down at the farm, there were several Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs feeding in the garden there and a flock of Starlings flew south. The crop field was alive with birds, the vast majority of which were finches, with a few Reed Buntings joining groups of Redpolls that were lining the fences. Nets were opened, and finches quickly began to be caught, totals at the end of the post.

Sam headed up to Nant, there were more finches up there than there had been too, so it quickly became clear quite a nice arrival had happened overnight. Two Wheatears were on the North End and a Merlin flew down the West Coast which was seen all over the island today, taking advantage of the masses of finches on offer. Alex had two Bar-tailed Godwits within the flock of Curlews, while a Whinchat was in the Lowlands below Carreg along with plenty more Stonechats

Later in the afternoon, Sam opened nets at the Obs as plenty of finches and Blackcaps were around, he caught 29 birds with the majority being Goldfinches, with the story being much the same at the farm.

Other sightings and full totals today included: two Wigeon, one Teal, two Merlins, two Peregrines, one Water Rail, 14 Skylarks, 118 Swallows, one flava wagtail, 35 Robins, seven Song Thrushes, two Redwings, seven Blackcaps, 13 Chiffchaffs, one Willow Warbler, 18 Goldcrests, 53 Stalings, 42 Chaffinches, 10 Siskins, 275 Goldfinches, 253 Linnets, 88 Redpolls, one Bullfinch, five Reed Buntings and one Barn Owl.
