Rain fell on the island today, not much, but enough to set the Manx Shearwater census back for a day. There was no string wind to speak of, just a favourable gentle south-easterly.

Census in the morning instantly yielded Spotted Flycatchers on fence lines around the Wetlands, which was a pretty good sign of movement. Up at Nant there were the usual warblers that are likely breeders such as Whitethroats, Blackcaps, Sedge Warblers and Chiffchaffs. Unsurprisingly there were Spotted Flycatchers here too.

A quick wander around the obs garden produced some nice birds, Lesser Redpolls were attacking the Damson and Willow trees, and a Reed Warbler was singing in the south side of the garden throughout the afternoon.

Possibly the highlight of the day was the passage of House Martins. Flocks of them flew over the wetlands and Pen Cristin during the day, and they were feeding low over the Wetlands with Swallows, but yet again barely any Sand Martins were with them, just one was seen on the Narrows.

Birds today: two Sanderlings, eight Turnstones, one Sandwich Tern, six Collared Dove, one Cuckoo, five Swifts, one Sand Martin, 24 Swallows, 159 House Martins, two White Wagtails, one Lesser Whitethroat, 20 Spotted Flycatchers, four Siskins and 19 Lesser Redpolls.

Ringing Totals: Sedge Warbler 1, Whitethroat 2, Chiffchaff 1 (all in Heligoland).
