It was calm and warm again with lovely blue skies. Stuart was up at 5am to begin the third round of breeding bird surveys. The majority of the singing was being done by the resident Wrens. A Wheatear with food was seen on the West Coast and 13 Sedge Warblers were heard. Most of the Stonechats have fledged young and can be heard noisily chatting away in the Gorse.

A new volunteer arrived today. Ed has just finished his final year at Bangor University and will be assisting Sam and Megan with the Manx Shearwater census.
Following the Bank Holiday weekend there has been an influx of Racing Pigeons. The majority are seen flying over, however one has been enamoured by island life and is hanging around the Observatory compound.
Birds today: five Gannets, one Grey Heron, one Whimbrel, one Turnstone, one Common Sandpiper, five Collared Doves, two Cuckoos, 10 Swallows, 10 House Martins, 13 Sedge Warblers, one Reed Warbler, two Whitethroats, two Blackcaps, nine Chiffchaffs, three Willow Warblers, one Chaffinch, two Siskins, 14 Goldfinches, 12 Lesser Redpolls
