It was a calm start and Stuart opened up the nets at the Obs. There were very few birds with the highlights being a juvenile Blackcap and a Song Thrush. Between net rounds Stuart continued to compile the breeding birds data. Steve was out on census and saw a Little Egret and one of the juvenile Peregrines on the Narrows and a large flock of 35 House Martins

Little Egret

Juvenile Peregrine

Moths were again the highlight of the day with a very full trap this morning. A total of 385 moths were trapped of around 50 species of which 6 were new for the year. A Dark Spinach was only the second recorded on the island.

During an afternoon swim, Stuart discovered a Rock Pipit nest on the cliff and climbed up to find 4 young chicks. The work never stops!

Birds today: six Gannets, one Little Egret, one Grey Heron, one Whimbrel, 23 Curlews, seven Redshanks, four Turnstones, four Black-headed Gulls, one Sandwich Tern, four Collared Doves, one Sand Martin, 40 Swallows, 37 House Martins, three Willow Warblers
