The day began with a list shower or two and fairly light to moderate south-westerly winds. As the day progressed the wind strength increased and by nightfall was blowing a gale force and torrential rain was falling. 

Out at sea five Common Scoters flew south, seven Manx Shearwaters were seen along with 212 Gannets and 12 Shags. An Arctic Skua was off the South End and a Great Skua was off the west. 47 Black-headed Gulls were seen offshore along with two Mediterranean Gulls. Kittiwakes numbered 142, and 15 Greater Black-backs were seen. Two Sandwich Terns also moved south

Four Grey Herons were recorded, two on the Narrows, one on the West Coast and another on Pwll G.

A Sparrowhawk was at Ty Pellaf, a Buzzard over the Mountain along with two Peregrines.

The high tide wader roost held the usual suspects, 39 Oystercatchers, 1 Grey Plover, 16 Purple Sandpipers, four Dunlin nine Redshanks, 40 Turnstones and 63 Curlews, whilst a colour ringed Whimbrel; which was ringed here in 2016, was seen on the South End and three Snipes were seen in the grassy areas of the island.

Wader Roost


A small passage of Swallows was seen during the day with 47 counted. A total of 22 Meadow Pipits and 25 Rock Pipits were seen along with eight Grey Wagtails, four Pied Wagtails and a single White Wagtail.

The long staying Whinchat was again at Ty Pellaf, whilst eight Stonechats were seen and six Wheatears

Wheatear

A single Chiffchaff was the only warbler of the day and two Goldcreats were at Cristin. 167 Linnets were seen, 142 of these were on the South End.
