Yet another cracking day on the isle of the blessed! Kevin had the nets open for a large part of the day, whilst Steve did census in the morning, rushed back to make coffee for a group of day-trippers Brough over by our regulars Jackie and Jenny, and then he spent a large part of the day in the BITL Scientific Committee meeting before heading back out to complete the census!

The day began with an obvious increase noted in warblers in and around the Obs garden. Kevin extracted a Willow Warbler with a Spanish ring already on its leg.

Four Grey Herons were seen on the South End and the usual two Teal and 13 Mallards were seen.

A male and female Sparrowhawk were at Nant. Solfach and the Narrows produced seven of each of Ringed Plovers and Dunlins, the Grey Plover and a Whimbrel. 70 Curlews were on the South End and a Wood Sandpiper (the second of the year) was heard flying south over the Narrows. There were 67 Turnstones on the Narrows too.

The Greater Spotted Woodpecker was seen in various places, whilst Swallows numbered just 73 and House Martins 23.

Six White Wagtails and 15 Pieds were seen.

A Whinchat was at Nant, and 12 Wheatears. Two Song thrushes were seen, one at the Obs and another up north.

A trip to the sunflowers in the evening produced the only Sedge Warbler of the day along with three of the day's six Whitethroats.

Two Garden Warblers were recorded along with six Blackcaps and 31 Chiffchaffs.

Another good arrival of Willow Warblers saw a minimum of 307 seen. There were 12 Spotted Flycatchers and three Pied continuing the best autumn for a very long time for this lovely little flycatcher.

The linnet flocks fell just 15 shy of 500, with 200 in the Sunflowers at the farm, 200 between the Narrows and South end and then 85 in the Lowlands.
