Calm winds and largely sunny skies made for a change from the recent dip in the weather, though it still remained cold. There was a bit of a Corvid movement today as two Hooded Crows (new for the year) were seen flying past the West Coast, as well as 13 Rooks. Three Sandwich Terns heading south from the East Side took the year list up to 89! A small fall of Phylloscs occurred as 15 Chiffchaffs and seven Willow Warblers were seen around the Island. A White Wagtail was seen on Solfach, and the Pink-footed Goose was seen again at Pwll Cain.

Ed and Ollie went on an afternoon walk to Nant in search for further migrants, but instead found a Moorhen on a nearby pond in need of some attention as it struggled to stay afloat. They took it back to Cristin to warm it and dry it out inside. After around 30 minutes, the bird showed signs of improving as it started to  scurry around the office. It was then released into Crisitin garden where it scampered off energetically, so mission success!

Later in the afternoon, Steve and the assistant wardens went round to Pen Cristin to do some preliminary work on the Chough nest monitoring project. Whilst the Choughs didn’t play ball, the views of the mainland from the East Side were spectacular, as well as the plethora of seabirds that were flying around below! Seven Puffins on the sea were the highlight, alongside two Fulmars that swooped past.
