Strong easterlies overnight that continued throughout the day made for an unprecedented migration spectacle! An island record day count of 6970 (!!) Fieldfares was logged (previous record count in a day was 2700) and two Lapland Buntings were sighted, alongside 2310 Redwings, nine Song Thrushes, 1560 Starlings, eight Bramblings, four Greenfinches, 45 Siskins, 24 Snipes, 26 Skylarks, five Grey Wagtails, and two Stock Doves. The majority of thrushes sighted were coming in-off from the sea from the West Coast, due to birds overshooting the mainland when crossing from Scandinavia in the strong tailwinds. They were moving in flock sizes ranging from pairs of birds to over 300 together!
