Monday 7 September 2009
A really pleasant sunny day looked reasonably promising early on but, despite a good deal of effort in the field, nothing out of the ordinary materialised. Three Pied Flycatchers and a couple of Spotted Flycatchers were found in the morning, along with an influx of at least seven Grey Wagtails, a Garden Warbler, 14 Willow Warblers, four Chiffchaffs, and a Sand Martin. Two Sparrowhawks arrived, and the number of Kestrels rose to four. 14 Purple Sandpipers were seen at high tide, while other waders included a Knot, a Snipe, two Dunlins and 25 Redshanks. A sudden northward movement of 165 Herring Gulls in the afternoon was unexpected.
