Friday 1 October 2010

A wet and windy start to the day resulted in almost nothing at all of note being seen. An improvement in the weather for the afternoon also failed to produce much, the highlights being a couple of Sand Martins and three Merlins. The rest of the day’s sightings were mostly residue from previous days (or weeks in a lot of cases), with the Melodious Warbler turning up in the Heligoland trap again, the Knot still present on the South End and two each of Blue Tit and Great Tit in the gardens. Lingering warblers included a couple of Blackcaps, three Chiffchaffs, and seven Goldcrests. Two Herons were still on the island and the most interesting seabirds were 14 Common Scoters, five ‘Commic’ Terns and a Sandwich Tern.
