The day’s highlights had been and gone by mid-morning. The first Brambling of the autumn was with an arrival of Chaffinches at Cristin, and some Crossbills also flew overhead. A Barn Owl was another surprise in the observatory garden. Four Lapland Buntings, 42 Skylarks and eight Grey Wagtails were counted heading south, while grounded migrant passerines included a Grasshopper Warbler, the same Reed Warbler and Melodious Warbler, two Blackcaps, 12 Goldcrests, two Great Tits, a Blue Tit, a Greenfinch and two Siskins. A Water Rail was still in the withies, a Golden Plover and a Knot were seen and a Sooty Shearwater was reported offshore.

Today's moth highlights included a Pink-barred Sallow(top) in the withies, a few Black Rustics(bottom) at the obs and a couple Brindled Ochres at the lighthouse.
