A flat calm, glorious and sunny Christmas day proved very pleasant to wander around the island;a few birds were also around. A Tufted Duck visited Solfach briefly, alongside two Shelducks and three Teals. In the afternoon, a Stock Dove was found in the plantation. Other birds included the usual waders as yesterday with the day’s totals of Snipe coming to 113; forty one Woodcocks and two Jack Snipe also fed amongst them. A small flock of gulls gathered on the narrows in the afternoon; 110 Black headed Gulls, twelve Common Gulls and a Kittiwake were seen.

Golden Plovers have not arrived in their hundreds this year.
Woodcocks and Snipe have been seen in record numbers in recent days.
