Sunday 20 February 2011

Despite the wind picking up quite considerably during the night and leaving a chilly feel to the day, a few birds were scattered around. A brief morning sea-watch off the south tip saw three Gannets, seven Fulmars, twelve Guillemots, 158 Razorbills, five Common Scoters and twenty one Kittiwakes passing by. A pair of Ringed Plovers were again on the pebbly beach south of Solfach, a Common Gull joined eighty eight Herring Gulls at high tide to feed and a Whimbrel was also around Solfach. Elsewhere, a couple Buzzards played in the turbulent winds gusting up the east side and two Skylarks were on the maritime heath near the north hide.
