An extremely wet and miserable day did, however, bring a few migrants to the island’s shores. Two Bar-tailed Godwits (one of which was fatally attracted to the lighthouse during the night), were seen in the morning, with impressive wader totals at high tide amounting to: eight Ringed Plovers, two Sanderlings, four Purple Sandpiper, five Dunlins, two Snipe, a Whimbrel, 22 Curlews, 26 Redshanks, two Common Sandpipers and 89 Turnstones.
Two White Wagtails were among 34 Pied Wagtails in the wetlands and on Solfach, and three Spotted Flycatchers were dotted around. A Blackcap, 14 Chiffchaffs, 86 Willow Warblers and six Goldcrests were scattered all over the island, with 50 in the south end gorse alone.
