Saturday 24 March 2012

In the morning, a female Lapland Bunting was seen on the South End amongst 175 Meadow Pipits, with a further 80 of the latter seen elsewhere. A male Tufted Duck seen in Solfach later on in the day was the most notable sighting of the day, with only 24 previous records of this species on the island. Two Kestrels and a Buzzard circling the West Side mid-morning were new on the raptor front, whilst a pair of Collared Doves arrived in Cristin garden. Passerine-migrant numbers were somewhat fewer than yesterday, with a single White Wagtail, four Wheatears, a continental Song Thrush, 15 Chiffchaffs, 22 Goldcrests, three Goldfinches, seven Siskins, five Lesser Redpolls and the same male Reed Bunting logged.
