Sunday 1 April 2012

April started on a pretty quiet note today, despite calm winds from the South and a little low cloud during the night. A Golden Plover over the South End, a Yellowhammer over Cristin in the morning, two Stock Doves over the Narrows and a Reed Bunting on the South End were pick of the lot. Hirundine passage for the day consisted of a disappointing three Swallows and three Sand Martins, whilst the odd warbler arriving towards the end of the day boosted figures up to: two Blackcaps, 20 Chiffchaffs, 6 Willow Warblers and 13 Goldcrests. 180 Meadow Pipits, three White Wagtails and 12 Wheatears were around the coast, whilst two Buzzards circled above Cristin.

At least two Skylarks have been singing over the West Side over the last few weeks
 Buzzard
Wheatears have still not arrived in any decent numbers, with the majority of birds remaining around the stone walls on Pencristin
