Monday 30 April 2012

It was another decent day on the bird-front, and a good end to April. The more noteworthy sightings of the day included three Short-eared Owls, two Golden Plovers, a Snipe, two Cuckoos, five Swifts, five Tree Pipits, two Redstarts, a Whinchat and a male Pied Flycatcher trapped at Cristin. 225 Wheatears were scattered around inland, a Sand Martin, 63 Swallows and 20 House Martins passed overhead, and two Grasshopper Warblers, seven Sedge Warblers, three Whitethroats, 63 Blackcaps, seven Chiffchaffs, 183 Willow Warblers and a Goldcrest were virtually everywhere!

The rather dapper Pied Flycatcher that graced the Observatory Garden
Blackcaps were very evident in the bushes
Good Numbers of Willow Warblers were present again
The pair of Chaffinches continue to feed their youn in the Observatory Garden
