Monday 9 September 2013

Prospects were looking good at the start of the day, with a decent arrival of phylloscs bringing hope that there may be something a little scarcer on the island to find. However, by midday a brisk Northerly wind had picked up and many of the migrants had moved through, leaving very little else (and certainly no rarities) to entertain.
Nevertheless, an excellent total of over 70 Willow Warblers and 50 Chiffchaffs was recorded during the day, along with three Tree Pipits, four Grey Wagtails, two Whitethroats, four Blackcaps, six Goldcrests and three Spotted Flycatchers.
Raptors for the day were represented by two each of Kestrel and Sparrowhawk, and a single Merlin.

There have been flocks of over 30 alba wagtails around the Narrows in recent days, which have included many White Wagtails, as well as Pied Wagtails such as this one
