It was a glorious day on the island, with clear blue skies and hardly a breath of wind encouraging a small amount of visible migration to take place. In the morning, a male Firecrest was seen feeding in Ty Pellaf garden, and was later trapped at Cristin; the Yellow-browed Warbler which was ringed yesterday remained mobile between Ty-Pellaf and Cristin, whilst other warbler totals for the day included five Garden Warblers, three Blackcaps, 16 Chiffchaffs and 32 Goldcrests.

There was a small passage of birds overhead throughout the day, dominated by Meadow Pipits and finches. Totals from the day amounted to: 10 Buzzards, two Kestrels, a Merlin, 56 Skylarks, 121 Meadow Pipits, four Jackdaws, two Rooks, 64 Chaffinches, four Bramblings, one Greenfinch, seven Siskins and a Reed Bunting.

There were two frustrating sightings during the day, which unfortunately managed to get away. The first was a pale acrocephalus warbler in Ty Capel garden, which sported a long primary projection with pale-tipped primaries. This bird was only seen a couple of times, before disappearing into the ash tree.
The second sighting was of a large sylvia warbler, which was seen in flight as it dived into the green lane. It was grey above, clean white below and had two wing bars- all adding up to a Barred Warbler. Again, this bird was never seen again.

 This superb male Firecrest spent some of the morning feeding in Ty Pellaf garden, before re-locating to Cristin. Here, it managed to find its way into the mist nets.

A rather odd record today was this very smart summer-plumaged Red-throated Diver, which was seen paddling around Henllwyn in the afternoon. It is very rare to see this species so close in to land on Bardsey, as they most often fly past a mile or so out at sea
