There was a distinct chilly feel to the day today, after more than three weeks of very mild temperatures. The brisk northerly wind did very little to change seabird passage out at sea, with very low numbers recorded during the day. The best sightings comprised a Red-breasted Merganser and seven Wigeons. Eight Chiffchaffs and three Blackcaps was a moderate increase on yesterday's figures, whilst a Yellow-browed Warbler was heard around Cristin.

The Brick. The first of this moth species so far this year
There have been three particular species of long, brown noctuids turning up in the moth traps recently. These are Dark Sword-grass (top left and middle bottom), Turnip Moth (top middle and lower left) and Pearly Underwing (upper right and lower right). These three species can vary a fair amount in terms of their colour and markings, occasionally making for some tricky IDs

  1. Beautiful series of moth shots. I am surprised the Chiffchafes are still around.

  2. I think it should be Pearly Underwing (upper right and lower right)
