A decent selection of birds were
to be found around the island today highlighted by the first Brambling of the
autumn, amongst a small finch passage of one Siskin, 19 Goldfinches, and two
Lesser Redpolls.
A good high tide count of 50 Oystercatchers, one Dunlin, one Snipe,
one Whimbrel, 61 Curlews, seven Redshanks, and 39 Turnstones was seen in the
evening.
Healthy seabird movement include 12
Fulmars, 75 Manx Shearwaters, 82 Gannets, three Common Scoters, one Great Skua,
four Little Gulls, seven Black-headed Gulls, 67 Herring Gulls, 128 Kittiwakes,
and 157 Razorbills.
Other migrant tallies include 52
Swallows, three Grey Wagtails, 27 Pied Wagtails, one White Wagtail, one
Whinchat, one Song Thrush, four Blackcaps, 14 Chiffchaffs, 41 Goldcrests, and
15 Ravens.
Lastly, an interesting discovery
at The Plantation concerned fresh Barn Owl feathers and pellets, whilst the Comma
re-appeared at Cristin.
