Yesterday’s
Wryneck and one Melodious Warbler stayed on another night, the former on the
Mountainside near Cristin and with the latter in Cristin garden itself.
A good
day for waders with three Golden Plovers,
seven Knots, five Sanderlings, seven Purple Sandpipers, three
Dunlins, one Snipe, one Black-tailed
Godwit, nine Whimbrels, 11 Redshanks, four Common Sandpipers, and
44 Turnstones recorded during the
day, many of which were flying south down the West Coast. More passage at sea
included seven Arctic Skuas, two Great Skuas, 3165 Kittiwakes, three Sandwich Terns, four Arctic Terns, 24 ‘Commic’ Terns,
and 22 Common Scoters whilst 73 Great Black-backed Gulls was a
particularly high count. Further migrants around the island today were one Sand Martin, one Tree Pipit, 17 Wheatears, one Sedge Warbler, three Whitethroats, ten Willow
Warblers, and nine Goldcrests.
