Rain, mist and fog made for difficult censusing conditions, which showed in today’s totals. A small number of migrants were noted still, presumably grounded by the less than hospitable weather. A Sandwich Tern was the only bird logged out at sea. On the land however, a small increase to 13 Robins was noted, Robins are now extinct as a breeder on the island so all birds seen on Bardsey are migrants, and with a large proportion wearing a grey scarf, one can assume our birds are largely continental. Other chats today included five Stonechats. Warblers totalled just two Blackcaps, eight Chiffchaffs and 14 Willow Warblers. Two Spotted Flycatchers were the only other bird of note today.
Dunnock
Meadow Pipit will and are getting an ever commoner migrant as the month goes on, we should be recording daily counts of a few hundred by the time October reaches us
