Unfortunately, today wasn’t particularly overwhelming, a small selection of migrants persevered through the Southerly winds, but any notable passage had been hampered by the conditions.

The Water Rail was once again heard in the withies, but today’s wader totals were perhaps the most notable sightings of the day which included two Purple Sandpipers, two Snipes, two Whimbrels, 41 Curlews and 21 Redshanks. Aside from the 174 Razorbills noted out to sea, very little sea passage took place. On the land things weren’t much more encouraging, the Great Spotted Woodpecker was present again, 31 Robins was a reasonable count, warblers totalled four Blackcaps, 11 Chiffchaffs and 15 Goldcrests. The remnants of yesterday’s parus invasion were two Blue Tits and seven Great Tits. Some more light finch passage was noted with five Chaffinches, five Siskins and 65 Goldfinches.

It may have been quiet on the avian front, but a Delicate was a nice surprise in the moth trap today
