Storm Hannah hit the island in full force today with winds pushing 80mph and sea spray covering the coast in foam. In weather like this the best thing to do is look out to sea as small passerines were sheltering deep in the shrub refusing to come out for anyone.

Throughout the day over 9 hours of seawatching from the north and the south hide took place giving some pretty good counts. New for the year was a Storm Petrel seen walking on the water in front of the north hide. Skuas were also present in numbers, mostly in the evening, with two Great Skuas, seven Arctic Skuas, four Pomarine Skuas and two un-identified Skua. Manx Shearwaters also went through in high numbers, as expected, with over 7124 passing the west coast throughout the day. Kittiwakes moved in numbers with 488, and 554 Auks, and three Commic Tern were seen too

More birds of interest included one Merlin, one Sparrowhawk, our second Golden Plover of the year, 48 Whimbrel, and one Greater Spotted Woodpecker.
