Dazzling in the early hours produced a Ringed Plover and a Turnstone from Solfach and a Dunlin from Henllwyn, although a bright moon and calm weather hindered catching.

Turnstone

The day started out fresh but became increasingly warm and sunny throughout. Gentle westerly winds gave some hope of continued sea passage so George decided to seawatch from the obs. This was quiet however and a pale-morph Arctic Skua was the sole highlight. During seawatch four Grey Wagtails and nine 'alba' wagtails went over the obs, furthering the recent wagtail passage. This was most evident as 143 White Wagtails were seen today, including 103 on the Narrows.

Later that morning the Storm Petrel nets were taken down from the North End, bringing a close to a successful ringing season for this species, with over 400 individual birds caught. On the way to the North End two Peregrines and two Ravens were seen fighting over the mountain in an evenly contested dispute. There was also a noticeable increase in Chiffchaffs today with 11 recorded across the island, including one singing at Nant.

The plan for the afternoon was to set up nets in Gareth's crop fields, specifically planted for finch flocks, but this was delayed in favour of a boat trip out of Cafn. Ben, Sam and Alex headed out on the calm sea with George on fishing duty. This proved fruitful as 16 Pollock were caught and brought back. Two Mackerel and two Wrasse were also caught but were returned to the water due to their smaller size. On return to Cafn a juvenile Shag was seen hunting Whitebait, unfased by our presence.

Other sightings included: three Common Scoter, one Kestrel, one Golden Plover, 67 Curlews, seven Blackcaps, 14 Willow Warblers and four Goldcrests.
